The Role — Julie Taylor
Julie Taylor is the bookish, headstrong daughter of Eric and Tami Taylor, and across five seasons she grows up in real time on screen. Where so many television teenagers are written as plot devices, Julie reads as an actual kid — rolling her eyes at her father’s celebrity in a football-mad town, testing her independence, and feeling out who she wants to be apart from the Taylor name. Teegarden, herself a teenager when the show began, ages into the part with an unforced naturalism that anchors the family’s scenes.
Her central arc is the slow-burning first romance with shy backup quarterback Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford), one of the most tenderly observed young relationships in modern television. Julie’s storylines — college decisions, a teaching-assistant misstep, the push and pull between Dillon and the wider world — gave the series its clearest window into the worries of an ordinary American family, and into the marriage of the two adults trying to raise her right.
Before Dillon
Born October 10, 1989, in Downey, California, Aimee Teegarden began modeling and taking small screen roles as a teenager before being cast in Friday Night Lights. The series, which premiered in 2006, became her breakout, and she remained a series regular through its final season in 2011 — effectively growing up in front of the camera alongside the show’s audience.
After Friday Night Lights
With the show winding down, Teegarden moved into features and led young-adult fare, playing Jenny Randall in Wes Craven’s Scream 4 (2011) and starring as Nova Prescott in Disney’s Prom (2011). She headlined The CW’s sci-fi romance Star-Crossed (2014) as Emery Whitehill, appeared in the ABC drama Notorious (2016) as Ella Benjamin, and returned to horror in Rings (2017) as Skye Johnston. In the years since she has worked steadily across film and television, including a multi-picture relationship with Crown Media’s Hallmark networks.
