Ainsley Miller — The Character

Ainsley Miller is the college-aged daughter of Monty and Dallas, born into the oil-world hierarchy that her father built and her mother navigates. She has grown up inside the money without fully having examined what produces it. Landman uses her arc to track the process of that examination — a young woman beginning to see the world her parents have constructed from the outside, and forming her own view of whether she wants to remain inside it.

Her dynamic with Cooper Norris — Tommy’s son, a roughneck on the rig floor — is the season’s most pointed generational class narrative. Two young people who encounter each other across the full economic distance of the same industry, on the same patch of West Texas, with no reason beyond circumstance to be in the same room. The show doesn’t romanticise the gap between them. It observes it.

The Career & The Sheridan Connection

Michelle Randolph came to Landman with significant Taylor Sheridan experience already behind her. She appeared in 1883 (Paramount+, 2021–2022) as Elizabeth Dutton, a character in the Dutton family’s foundational westward migration story. That role placed her in one of the most scrutinised new productions in the Paramount+ universe and demonstrated the ability to hold her own in a series built around established stars (Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott) and a breakout performance from Isabel May.

That Sheridan cast her again in Landman for an entirely different kind of role — contemporary rather than period, urban-adjacent rather than frontier, the daughter of the establishment rather than a pioneer — suggests a confidence in her range that the industry’s typical trajectory for young actresses wouldn’t necessarily have predicted. Her sister Ansley Randolph is also an actress, and Randolph has spoken about growing up in a household that took performance seriously as a craft. The family background shows in the specificity she brings to Ainsley, who could easily be a function in the class narrative rather than a person inside it.
